Tuesday, Oct. 29th- “Drugs are OLD news.” Dress like an elderly person!

Wednesday, Oct. 30th- “Be a good character.”  Dress like your favorite book or movie character.

Thursday, Oct. 31st- “Say Boo to drugs.”  Wear your costume today!  (no masks or weapons)

Friday, Nov. 1st- “Leaf/Leave drugs at the door.”  Wear fall colors for your class party.”

Clark County Recycling District

I highly encourage you to find 2 minutes in your day to show your students the Clark County Recycling video below.  It’s pretty cool to see the process of separation of recycled goods in order to use the material for something new!  Recycling Video Link

Clark County Recycling District is pleased to share the attached video with your school with the goal of raising awareness and recycling participation.  All recycling programs are not the same.  The video explains the Clark County recycling trail from start to finish.  CCRD website:  www.recycleclarkcounty.org

Thanksgiving Family Dinner- Tuesday, November 26th

We are so excited to host our annual JJES Family Dinner again this school year.  Invitations with important information will be passed out to students on Monday.  Guests will pay $5 (cash)  per meal and must RSVP to this event by November 8th.  Due to the preparations for this event, we will not be able to accept late entries.

  • Students are limited to 4 guests
  • We encourage families to not bring siblings because we would prefer for the focus to be on their JJ elementary student.

Parent Conferences- Tuesday, November 5th

Teachers will be sending out a Sign Up Genius form soon.  We encourage parents/guardians to do their best to meet with their child’s teacher.  Conferences will be scheduled from 11:30-7:00.

Build a Bed 2025 Application

I am reaching out to provide information about the United Way Build a Bed program. Attached, you will find this year’s application. Please note that applications are due by December 20. The build event is scheduled for Saturday, February 8, 2025. Following the build event, we will arrange for the delivery of the beds to GCCS campuses on February 10. A representative from GCCS will be in touch with you after February 10 to coordinate a pick-up time. Families who qualify will receive a twin bed frame (which comes in four parts with hardware for assembly), a twin mattress, and bedding materials.

After School Activity Pick Up

We are so proud to offer a wide range of extracurricular activities at JJ.  With multiple activities letting out at the same time, we ask that all parents or guardians use our car rider process to pick up after these activities.  Please make sure to enter our parking lot from Halcyon Rd, wait in line to pick up your child, and exit the parking lot near the Charlestown Library.  Do not park and walk over to get your child.  This makes dismissal from these activities unsafe.

Final Forms

Any student wishing to participate in an athletic extracurricular activity, will be required to complete Final Forms and pay the $5 fee.  A physical is not needed for elementary sports.  It is often more convenient for families to go ahead and complete this at the beginning of the school year. https://greaterclark-in.finalforms.com/

Charlestown Community Opportunities:

CHS Wrestling Elementary League

The Charlestown Wrestling League is an opportunity for the youth in our community to explore the sport of wrestling.  It will be open to children ages K-5th grade.  The clinic will focus on footwork, balance, coordination, flexibility, and basic fundamentals of wrestling.  Wrestlers will learn takedowns, turns, escapes, and scoring/rules.  The clinic will last 8 weeks and wrestlers will receive two practices a week at the high school from 6:00-7:00. The first practice will be Thursday October 24th, and  Tuesday October 29th.  The cost of the league is $100.  Includes T-Shirt.  Payment is Due on the first practice, Oct. 24th.

Practices will be run by high school coaches Adam Doherty, Ben Lewellen and current high school wrestlers.  This year we are capping the league to the first 60 wrestlers to sign up.  If you sign up after the cap you will be notified.  Any questions contact coach Doherty at adoherty@gccschools.com.     Sign Up Google Form
