You should have received your child’s snapcode in the mail over the past couple of weeks.  Please use this to register your child for the 2025-2026 school year at your earliest convenience.

PTO Fundraiser: Kona Ice- Friday, April 4th

The PTO will have a Kona Ice Fundraiser on the following Spring dates during recess: April 4th and May 9th..  All purchases MUST be made online before 8:00 AM on the day of the fundraiser.  Please use the following link to purchase your child a Kona Ice: WWW.KONA-ICE.Com/PAY  Event Code: K905883892.  The profits made from this fundraiser will go to every child getting a free Kona Ice on Field Day at the end of the school year.

Charlestown Elementary School PTO: Looking for New Members!

The Pleasant Ridge PTO & Jonathan Jennings PTO are working together to make BIG plans for our brand new Charlestown Elementary PTO for the 2025 – 2026 school year! This is your opportunity to be a part of something fun and ground breaking in our school community and to create an exciting new environment for our kids and educators. If you are interested in being considered for a position please complete the form no later than April 7, 2025. 5th Grade: Growth and Development Video- April 2 and 3

Our 5th grade students are about to study an important lesson on the early stages of puberty which many of them are beginning to experience. Your child will be attending a session on the subject of Human Growth and Development at our school.  This lesson has been carefully prepared and is part of a total Comprehensive Health Education program we provide to our students and will be presented by Liz Connors BSN RN. The videos have been produced based upon national research and consultation with school nurses, health educators, parents and medical professionals. 5th Grade: Charlestown Middle School Tour- April 2 and 3

Our 5th grade students will be traveling to CMS this week to tour their future new school and meet with CMS students to do a Q and A session.  Permission Slip

 

GCCS Art Show- April 10th – 19th

Join us as we celebrate our talented artists at GCCS.  The opening reception will be held on April 11th from 5:00-7:00 at the NOCO Arts and Cultural District at 628 Michigan Avenue in Jeffersonville. Viewing Hours will be: Thursday, April 10 from 2:00-6:00, Friday, April 11 from 5:00-7:00, Saturdays 4/12 and 4/19 from 1:00-4:00, Sunday, April 13 from 1:00-4:00, Thursday and Friday, April 17th and 18th from 2:00-6:00.

Charlestown Summer Science Camp 2025: Dinosaurs

Get ready for a fun-filled week of science exploration at the Knowledge is Power camp in Charlestown. The theme this year is “The Dinosaurs of Science – Jurassic Camp.”

  • K-2 Students Time: 9:00 – 11:00 AM
  • 3-5 Students time 12:00 – 2:00
  • Current grade level at the time of sign-up.

Throughout the week, campers will dive into a variety of exciting experiments, including:

  • Make Your Own Fossil – Discover the secrets of paleontology by creating your very own fossil.
  • Fizzing Dinosaur Eggs – Watch as your dinosaur eggs fizz and erupt!
  • How to Make Dinosaur Fossils – Explore how real fossils are made by mixing toothpaste and eggs to create your very own fossil replica.

These activities combine science and fun, sparking creativity while teaching you something new! 

 

 

After School Activity Pick Up

We are so proud to offer a wide range of extracurricular activities at JJ.  With multiple activities letting out at the same time, we ask that all parents or guardians use our car rider process to pick up after these activities.  Please make sure to enter our parking lot from Halcyon Rd, wait in line to pick up your child, and exit the parking lot near the Charlestown Library.  Do not park and walk over to get your child.  This makes dismissal from these activities unsafe.

JJES Pirate Family,

We hope everyone had a great Spring Break with their families and are ready to start an exciting and busy Quarter 4 of school! This quarter brings on a lot for us all at JJES.  Students will be testing the  ILEARN Summative Assessment in April and many of our third graders will be retesting IREAD in May after receiving remediation.  These tests are important to all of our students.  We have a lot of fun events planned throughout the quarter: Silly Safari Assembly, PTO Boosterthon, Kona Ice days, GCCS Art Show, our 5th graders go to Biztown, and all of the end of the year fun events like Field Day and Fire Truck Water Spray!  Our teachers and staff will not only be working so hard to make this a memorable end of the school year for your child, but we will also be packing up the building for our move into Charlestown Elementary!

 

Track Team- Permission Slip Due on Friday, March 28th

Track practice will begin Wednesday, April 2nd. Permission slips MUST be turned in by March 28th in order to participate in track. We will practice Tuesday-Thursday* until 4:40. Students should be picked up using the car rider line, between the cafeteria and playground. Parents, please pick your child up on time! Students should wear tennis shoes and athletic clothes. Please bring a water bottle! We will not be able to send runners back inside for drinks once practice begins. All Greater Clark County students that participate in athletics must be registered in Final Forms and pay $5. You can register by going to https://greaterclark-in.finalforms.com/. If you have registered for a sport and paid this year you will not need to register again. Academic Team- Permission Slip Due on March 31st

Academic team is a club that is for students who are motivated to learn, lead, and encourage others. We are accepting students from fourth and fifth grades.  Our tryouts for the academic team will be held on Tuesday, April 1 after school until 5:00. We may not have enough spots for everyone, so not all students who try out may make the team. After the tryouts, those who make the team will receive a note with more details. We will have practice on Tuesday and Thursday, and students will need to be picked up from JJ at 5:00. Our competition this year will be held at Jeff High on May 13th at 5:30. More dates and information will come after tryouts. Please fill out the following form stating your child has permission to attend academic team try outs and possible practices. Permission Slip

JJES Pirate Family,

 

This is the final week of Quarter 3.  Spring Break is scheduled for 3/17-3/21.  This week our students will be taking the ILEARN Checkpoint 3 on Monday and Tuesday.  On Friday, we will have a PRIDE celebration day and we ask that your child wear their PRIDE Family shirt.  We encourage you to review your child’s academic progress on Powerschool frequently throughout the school year.  The Quarter 3  Report Card will be available for you to view on Powerschool at the end of the week.

Science Club

Mr. Dietrich will be hosting a week long Science Club for each grade level leading up to Spring Break.  The 5th grade Science Club is scheduled for March 10-13, from 3:50-5:00. 

 

Chess Club: March 24-April 3

Mr. Dietrich will be hosting an after school Chess Club.  Students of all Chess levels are invited to participate.  Permission slips can be picked up from the office and are due on March 12th.  Permission Slip Form

Set Design Club- Permission slips due Wednesday, March 12th

Do you do you like to build, paint, craft?  We will be working in tandem with JJ Beats to create props and the set for the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Play! Set Design Club is for 3-5th grade. Only 10 students from each grade level will be chosen. Permission slips need to be turned into me, Ms.Morton room E5, by Wednesday 3/12/2025.  Art Club will meet every Friday afternoon, 4:00 pm to 5:00pm in the Art room. Please be considerate about our limited space for this activity. If your child plans to do other school activities that would meet on Friday after school, this might not be the right time to choose to participate in the club.

Science Club

Mr. Dietrich will be hosting a week long Science Club for each grade level leading up to Spring Break.  The 4th grade Science Club is scheduled for March 3-6, from 3:50-5:00. Please look for the 5th grade permission slips to be sent home this week.  Fifth grade Science Club is scheduled for March 10-13.


 

JJES Community Night- March 6th, 5:30-7:00 pm 

As the school year comes to a close and we eagerly await the opening of our new school, we invite you to take a walk down memory lane. Join us for a heartfelt farewell community night, themed “Pop In and Say Farewell,” to celebrate the cherished moments we’ve shared at Jonathan Jennings.  This event is open to past and present students, staff, and families.  

We will have trophies and memorabilia for sale in the cafeteria during the event!

 

Yearbook Group Pictures: Extracurricular Activities- Friday, March 7th 

Throughout the morning on Friday, March 7th, we will be taking all group photos of extracurricular activities for our Yearbook.  If the group your child participated in this school year had a team shirt, please bring that to put on for the picture.  

 

Chess Club: March 24-April 3

Mr. Dietrich will be hosting an after school Chess Club.  Students of all Chess levels are invited to participate.  Permission slips can be picked up from the office and are due on March 12th.  Permission Slip Form

 

Yearbooks on Sale

Yearbook order forms went home last week.  You can also order online at www.inter-state.com/flyerentry . The user code is 91406M.  The last day to order will be March 7th.

Student Handbook Highlights

  • Attendance-
    • If a student is going to be absent, please contact the office prior to 10:00 am.
    • Excused absences are absences with written documentation or parent communication stating the student is ill, experiencing symptoms, or other excusable absence reason as outlined in student handbooks. 
    • Unexcused absences are absences without written documentation or parent communication stating the student is ill, experiencing symptoms, or other excusable absence reason as outlined in student handbooks. 
  • If you are going to make a change in dismissal, we ask that you call the office and do it prior to 2:00 pm.  
  • The main office is not permitted to do early sign outs after 3:10 pm.
  • Students must attend ½ of a day in order to participate in extracurricular activities.
  • Birthday invitations are not permitted to be passed out at school.
  • Due to student health needs such as diabetes and food allergies, as well as being in compliance with the GCCS Wellness Policy, cookies, cupcakes and other sweets are NOT ALLOWED to be brought in for birthday celebration purposes.
  •  Due to the Greater Clark County Schools Wellness Policy, food from any restaurant (fast food or sit down) and soft drinks are prohibited in the school cafeteria.
  • Students may bring their cell phones to school for emergency preparedness. Cell phones should be turned off and kept in backpacks. If a student has his/her cell phone out while in school, it will be confiscated by an adult staff member. The cell phone will not be released back to the student. A parent/guardian will be called to pick the cell phone up in the school office.
