JJES Weekly News – February 2

2/2/2025

JJES Pirate Family,

We want to make you aware that our school community is currently experiencing a high volume of respiratory illnesses, including influenza, covid, strep, and other viruses. We are working with the Clark County Health Department and will increase cleaning measures over the weekend. The health and well-being of our students and staff remain our top priority, and we appreciate your support in helping to keep our school environment as safe as possible.

To help reduce the spread of illness and keep students healthy, we encourage the following:

  • Encourage Proper Handwashing – Frequent handwashing with soap and water for at least 20 seconds can help prevent the spread of germs.
  • Keep Sick Children at Home – If your child is experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue, body aches, or difficulty breathing, please keep them home until they are symptom-free for at least 24 hours without medication.
  • Cover Coughs and Sneezes – Teach children to use a tissue or their elbow to cover coughs and sneezes and to dispose of tissues properly.
  • Maintain Healthy Habits – Encourage a balanced diet, regular exercise, and adequate sleep to help strengthen your child’s immune system.

We appreciate your partnership in keeping our school community healthy. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school nurse or administration.

ILEARN Checkpoint Guidance for Families – All Grades (3).pdf

The Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) is piloting three checkpoints for Grades 3-8 in the 2024-2025 school year. These checkpoints are a new component of the new LEARN through-year assessment for English/Language Arts (ELA) and Math, which will be given to all students in Indiana beginning in the school year 2025-2026. Your child’s school will take part in the pilot program this year. The checkpoints will take place in Fall, Winter, and Spring. Each checkpoint has 20-25 questions and will show how your child is doing in key skills and concepts from the Indiana Academic Standards. This helps guide teaching and supports your child’s learning.

JJES Clothes Closet

Please keep us in mind when donating your gently used children’s clothing.  We are always in need of a variety of boys and girls clothing.  Our biggest need right now is pants!

Does Your Child Need a Winter Jacket?

Reminder about extra coats. There isn’t a huge variety of sizes for kids that may need a larger coat but they can always come and ask and see if I have one that will fit.

JJES Pirate Family,

Monday, January 6, 2025 will be an eLearning Asynchronous Day due to Inclement Weather

Asynchronous eLearning Days:

  • Your child’s teacher will communicate all assigned work and lessons through Google Classroom.  This will be posted by 9:00 a.m. Teachers will be checking email messages throughout the day.  If you have having trouble contacting a teacher, please call the school and leave a voicemail.  Voicemail is also monitored throughout our email system.

  • The lessons and assigned work will align to the district sequencing guides and students will remain on pace with their GCCS classroom.  Completed work should be submitted by the teacher assigned due date. A grace period for extenuating circumstances may be offered by the school. Work not submitted by the deadline may not receive full credit.

  • Attendance will be taken via a Google Form.  Students will be marked as absent if they do not complete the form on each eLearning day.

  • State law limits school districts to the use of only three asynchronous eLearning days per year. GCCS will reserve the use of these three days for the first three inclement weather days. After the use of the three allowable asynchronous days, all other inclement weather days will be synchronous.
