JJES Weekly News – January 15

1/15/2024

JJES Pirate Family,

Two Hour Delay on Tuesday, January 16th

We always get a lot of questions about this, but it just means that our day starts two hours later.  For example, normally arrival begins at 8:40 and because of the two-hour delay, tomorrow we will start our arrival process at 10:40 and students will be tardy after 11:00.  We will not serve breakfast.

CMS 5th Grade Parent Meeting

January 22 at 6:30 CMS will have an open house for parents of incoming  6th graders for the 24-25 school year.  If you would share this with your 5th grade families I would appreciate it.

Robotics Competition on Saturday

Our JJ Robotics team will compete at River Valley Middle School on Saturday beginning at 8:00 am.  We wish our Pirates good luck!

CLPYFA Pirate Workouts

Coach Hawkins and Little Pirate Football would like to announce offseason workouts. They will start on January 14th at 6:00-8:00. There will be 2 sessions.  2nd and 3rd graders will be first from 6-7 and 4th and 5th will be 7-8.  If you have children in different groups, they can accommodate at the time of your choice.  Workouts will be focused on body strength exercise’s, speed and agility drills, flexibility, and basic football drills(stance and footwork for blocking and tackling).  This is for 2nd- 5th graders.  It will be held at the auxiliary gym in the high school.  For more information, please contact clpyfa@gmail.com.

Inclement Weather Plan: 2023-24 School Year

If weather and road conditions become bad enough to cause a change in the normal school schedule, one of the following plans below will be announced to the media on the morning in question. The district uses -10 degree wind chill as a starting point when considering a delay or closing of school due to temperature.

Weather Communication

A School Messenger notification will be sent regarding a delay or closing of school during inclement weather by 5:30 a.m. to staff members and 6:00 a.m. to parents/guardians. In the event that school is delayed and weather conditions deteriorate, an announcement to close schools will be made by 7:30 a.m. The district’s status will also be posted on our website (gccschools.com) and social media sites. Please do not call school offices or school employees because it ties up phone lines which are needed for emergency communications.

Plan 1: Two Hour Delay

a) School will begin two hours late. Buses will run two hours later on their normal routes.

b) Afternoon dismissal will remain the same.

c) If your child attends a morning only preschool program, the morning session will be canceled.

d) There will be no AM Prosser transportation. PM will run on a normal schedule.

Plan 2: Schools Closed (the first 3 school closure days will be asynchronous eLearning

days and any day thereafter will be synchronous to avoid adding days to the calendar)

a) No school will be open that day. This will be an eLearning Day.

b) School will be open the next scheduled day unless another closing announcement is made.

c) Preschool students will not attend, no eLearning day.

During slick road conditions, bus drivers may decide, after approval by the Director of Transportation, that a portion of their route cannot be safely traveled. In such cases, every effort will be made to notify the affected homes. The following rules will apply for students whose bus did not run:

a) Attendance will be taken and recorded with a notation that absence was due to no bus transportation.

b) If the student has perfect attendance in progress for the year, he/she will remain eligible for the recognition. c) All make-up requirements must be met.

Inclement weather conditions sometimes cause buses to run late. Parents are asked to prepare their children to wait a reasonable amount of time for the bus and to be prepared for some variation in normal schedules. Questions about these procedures may be directed to the school principal, or the Transportation Office (812-288-4809).
