JJES Pirate Family,

Volleyball Intramurals: 

This activity is open to 4th and 5th grade students.  This is a great opportunity for athletes to learn the fundamentals of volleyball!  We will have 9 practices and complete our season with a GCCS Jamboree Tournament held at New Washington on May 18.  (details and times to follow).  Your child must have final forms and $5 final form payment completed to participate. This is a district expectation and must be completed prior to our first practice on May, 6th.  Please visit https://greaterclark-in.finalforms.com/  to complete final forms.  Students must also have a Permission Slip signed and returned.

5th Grade Growth and Development Lesson: Monday and Tuesday

Our 5th grade students are about to study an important lesson on the early stages of puberty which many of them are beginning to experience. Your child will be attending a session on the subject of Human Growth and Development at our school.  This lesson has been carefully prepared and is part of a total Comprehensive Health Education program we provide to our students and will be presented by Lyndsay Coombs RN. The videos have been produced based upon national research and consultation with school nurses, health educators, parents and medical professionals.  Permission slips were due on May 8th.  Click here for more information.  

JJES Competition Cheer Team 2024-2025

There will be NO Open Gym this week.

Tryouts will be May 21, 22, and 23.  You MUST complete the following google form if your child is participating in Open Gym.  This allows us to communicate with the office about the change of dismissal.  https://forms.gle/jo8juRqFm1irPQ8C7

Future 6th Grade Pirate Preview at CMS

This is an opportunity for incoming 6th graders to meet their teachers, practice opening their lockers, meet other incoming 6th graders, and most importantly feel less anxious about starting school in a new building.   Pirate Preview is July 25 from 12-3. Sign Up for Pirate Preview

  • Doors Open at 11:45am
  • Drop off is by the gym doors.
  • Parents are welcome back at 2pm for a Q&A session
  • Students will have an opportunity after the Q&A session to walk their parents around and meet their teachers.

Snapcode letters have been mailed to all current preschool-eleventh grade students. If you have not received yours in the mail, please contact your school’s front office to request an additional copy.

Registration for the Greater Clark County Schools Preschool program also opens April 1! Please visit Preschool | Greater Clark County Schools to access the application on/after April 1, 2024. Please note that the application will not open until 9am on April 1. All preschool spots will be dependent upon availability and completion of the registration process.

 

Sun Bucks (click on the link)

SUN Bucks is a new program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries during the summer. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meal programs. Receiving SUN Bucks will not affect children or families’ immigration status.

6th Grade Vaccinations Required-May 14, 4 pm- 7 pm

Jonathan Jennings Elementary/Greater Clark County Schools Immunization Clinic in cooperation with the Clark County Health Dept.  If your student’s vaccines are current for their age, the next grade level will also require:  (6th Grade): Tdap (1st dose) , Meningococcal (1st dose), HPV (CDC recommends/age 9+).  Additional questions can be answered by your school nurse or the CCHD at 812-288-2706 ext. 224.

Registering for this event will speed the time it takes to look up records, determine needed vaccines and vaccinating your student. Wait times and vaccine availability cannot be guaranteed for those who do not pre-register at least 24 hours prior to this event. Summer Science Camp Opportunity

Our very own, Mr. Dietrich will be hosting Summer Science Camp. The theme this year is “The Nature of Science”. Each student that attends will receive a T-shirt, participate in 20 hands on science experiments, many of which will be take home, 10 instructor led experiments, along with science explanations, snacks, games, and nature fun. The cost is $50 for the minicamp and $225 for the FULL DAY week long camp. Space is limited. Hope to see you there! Special thanks to The Greater Clark Education Foundation!

Pirate Run Club- Summer Endurance Session

CHS Sponsored Soccer Camp

Boys and girls grades K-8 are welcome! This camp is hosted by Coach Martinez and the coaching staff for CHS Boys Soccer. These coaches are providing over 30 years of soccer knowledge and are excited to share their experience with the area’s youth. Also, all coaches are bilingual (English/Spanish). Deadline to register is May 24th.

CHS Lady Pirates Basketball Camp- May 28-May 31

This will be held from 9-11 am at CHS.  Athletes will focus on offensive and defensive skills.  The cost is #0 and participants will receive a camp t-shirt.   For more information contact 812-704-6944 or stop by the front office to pick up a permission slip.
